What is the BFI?
The Big Freeport Indian (BFI) was originally commissioned by the Leslie Family, who opened Casco Bay Trading Post on the site of what is now the Big Indian Country Store.
Where did the BFI come from?
The BFI was built in Pennsylvania and transported to Maine on a flatbed truck in 1969. It weighs 1,500 pounds, and is 8’ wide and 30’ tall. The BFI is made of wood and fiberglass and has served as the unofficial gateway to Freeport for more than 40 years.
The BFI lives on!
